DVLeather SRL was born after a Canadian company specialized in computer vision and an Italian expert in automation and transportation systems for the tanning industry, decided to combine their expertise.
The goal of this alliance has been to revolutionize the industry with a unique and entirely new approach. It is with this and the industry’s needs in mind that DVLeather SRL has developed new systems to improve the efficiency of inspection processes for leather, on performance and quality wise.
Combining traditional methods and advanced technology, DVLeather SRL created a real technological breakthrough based on computer vision and aimed at benefitting the tanning industry. These state-of-the-art technologies literally propelled the industry in a new era: LEATHER QUALITY CERTIFICATION 4.0.

The market price of hides and skins varies considerably with the selection and therefore, an objective true value evaluation should be the highest priority for any sustainable leather making today. Value deviations by incorrect grading is the largest unpredictable economical risk for the tanners and manufacturers.
Manual inspections are highly subjective and there is no universally accepted grading system to describe surface defects. Defects that pass unnoticed generate an overestimation of the decisions that will increase the scrap rate downstream in the manufacturing process. On the other hand, all the incorrectly downgraded hides will eventually drive the buyer’s complaint rate down hence resulting in a potential loss of profit to the tanner.
The DVLeather Quality Certification System is the only one that allows an objective true value evaluation both for tanneries and manufacturers.

The partnership between DVLeather srl and Feltre srl - company specialized in tannery automation- is being further strengthened. The choice of this important collaboration was made with the aim of sharing Feltre’s expertise in automation and transportation systems of hides and DVL’s expertise on automatic sorting system for hides in w.b. and w.w. which is able to detect, classify and report the quality of each w.b. and w.w hide according to the individual requirements.
